Helping Someone With Depression

This post is for others that wish to help the depressed, and for those who are depressed(talks to both)!
As a depressed person it can be hard to help ourselves, it is important that others around us take the initiative to see the change in our ways and help us, but it is two sided the depressed need to first want to help themselves and let you in. Empathy, encouragement, humour and joy is always appreciated in considered amounts being to pushy can make us feel worse, though logic can be helpful with facts and all telling a person they are better of than others can and will make them feel more guilty overall creating more sadness. It is very difficult to help someone with depression especially when they push you away with harsh words and less love, but remember it is only the depression which is saying those things not the person you know. In the situation most people are in with depression it is best that both the person with depression and the person wanting to help can see what the other is feeling and trying to do from their perspective, it is really tricky and there will be some trouble on the road to recovery but when the person with depression is in a state where they can't help themselves and have given up for that point in time, it is then they will need your help with care and encouragement to get them going again but sometimes a little space can go along way as well giving them time to cool down. I'm no psychologist and have no degree and probably the person that wants to help doesn't either, so seeing and seeking professional help is always good because they can help with your certain and each individually different situations giving guidance and support that will make 'the' difference. It might be hard getting the depressed person there but well worth it, some do and don't mind taking anti-depressants which will be mentioned. The anti-depressants are tablets that help lift your mood in a biochemical way, it is best to do research and ask lots of questions about them before taking them because they have pros and cons like side effects(drowsiness, stomach-aches, weight gain..). I take them myself and they do help but I did change them around a bit to get a better mental state, you can always tell the professional what their like and if you think you want to change them. Overall seeing a professional is going to help you in the long run but it will cost a bit but like I said before it is well worth it, in my situation I don't have to worry about prices because I'm 15 but I believe for me it's free at least for a couple sessions because I've been diagnosed with Autism so if you have that you can enquire about it. Another big pointer is to not be dragged into depression with the person your trying to help it can rub off so just do the best you can for them without getting it as well, help from my family and other members did make things a lot easier for me so make sure to get as many people to help as possible. If your around my age the school you go to can also pull a few strings to help out with recovery from depression, a balance between alone time(listen to music, play games, and other things you like..) and keeping social with others that don't have depression is good. Socialising with others that do have depression and can relate to you helps as well if they don't add negativity to the current situation, of course positive thinking is good and reminding yourself depression is not a sign of weakness! Thats all the advice I can think of at this point in time. I know this cool clip you should check out which pretty much evaluates everything!

Quotes, Depression and Life

There are quotes that show what most of us think, quotes that are there to inspire and give courage but to read them you're mind must be first open to other ways of thinking. When in the depressed state of mind you just give up but if you try to read some quotes and take them in they do make a difference, you have nothing to loose right? Some quotes sound cheesy, some sound helpful and others that enlighten, there are some which portray what we think like:

Then there is these types which are how one should think:

But just reading these words of positivity will not change how you feel or your perspective towards life, for most because depression blinds you from the truth it wants you to suffer, the challenge is pushing away the negative and letting these quotes of optimism fill your mind. By thinking in this positive manner everyday is when you are truly fighting depression, before giving up on life give life your all! I look at life as something given to us it is truly special because considering how big this universe is life came into existence on Earth, the importance of each individual is immeasurable for each person is different and has a purpose in life otherwise we would never of been created. I find what really gives life meaning is when you find that purpose for your existence and you try your best to fulfill that, life is hard depending on how you look upon it, it is up to you to decide what will become of yourself.
